Helping needy Goldens is simply ‘GOOD for the SOUL’

Our organization is growing and evolving and moving and shaking ~ like a Golden after a bath!  And we’re looking for volunteers.  Is that you or someone you know?  Golden Rescue is run solely by volunteers ~ a wonderfully dedicated group, sharing a common vision to safeguard the wellbeing of every Golden in our care.  Our work is hugely rewarding and we would love to hear from you if you would like to help.  We currently have vacancies in a number of areas.

Positions are listed under two categories:  Casual and Team

Casual ~ occasional help every now and then when a specific need comes up such as transporting a Golden, doing a home visit or volunteering at one of our events

Team ~ working with a group of other volunteers with specific ongoing tasks…some roles are more demanding than others, some are time sensitive, and some can be done on your own timeline. 

Casual Opportunities


Bring your Golden or just yourself and help out at one of our many events throughout the year ~ all with the double goal of raising funds and building awareness for Golden Rescue.  The events are fun and everyone ~ and we mean everyone ~ loves to talk to our volunteers about our sweet Goldens. You never have to ask for a donation ~ we simply have a ‘Please Donate’ sign and donation jar in full view. If you are interested in volunteering at an upcoming event, please visit and "like" our Golden Rescue Facebook page and our website at to view our upcoming schedule, and feel free to reach out to Liz at volunteer(at) any time you see an event of interest to you.  PLEASE NOTE: Volunteers are asked to go to our website and fill out the Volunteer Application which is different than our adoption application. • Eastern Ontario & Quebec

Transport help is always needed to move our Goldens from their past to their future new lives. To do this, volunteer drivers travel the province picking up our precious cargo from their previous homes, shelters, vet offices, etc. and driving them to their foster homes. Sometimes this trip is short and can be done by one person and other times the distance is greater, requiring volunteers to work as a relay team, picking up or dropping off at identified locations along the way. Obviously, this is a very important task. Drivers must have a valid licence and be willing to use their own car.  Estimated time commitment: At your discretion but usually 1-3 hours

Home Visits  

Potential foster or adopting families require a home visit.  You would visit these temporary and permanent family homes and spend about 30 minutes, engaging in conversation and asking some questions from the questionnaire we would provide to you to guide the conversation. When you return home, we would ask you to fill out the home visit form and email it to the volunteer who contacted you.  Estimated time commitment:  totally dependent upon your time and availability

Team Opportunities

Are You a Retired Educator or Active in Education? 

We want to help elementary and secondary school students learn about the benefits of rescue ~ specifically Golden Rescue ~ and all that we do to give our precious Goldens a second chance at a better life.  In order to make inroads into schools, we are looking for retired educators who can ‘knock on the principal’s door’ or tap into school board and teacher networks to help schedule Golden Rescue presentations.  Additionally, the ideal volunteer would help develop age-appropriate presentations, deliver the presentations and/or work with Golden Rescue’s Education Team lead to find volunteer presenters.  This role requires roughly 10 hours per month and availability during school hours is ideal.


Social Media Graphic Designers

We are looking for Graphic Designers to help with the creation of content for our social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, YouTube etc.) If you like being part of a team and have a good understanding of social media, basic design practices, and basic Photoshop and/or Illustrator software knowledge, we would love to hear from you! This role works in conjunction with the Social Media Team to create aesthetically pleasing content that enhances our social media presence. While visually pleasing, the content will also be branded, informative and engaging, and promote Golden Rescue’s events and core messaging. Estimated time: 20 hours/month


Volunteer Coordinators

The Volunteer Coordinators (“VC”) are vital members of the Golden Rescue team. They are responsible for the recruitment and coordination of the volunteers – both two legged and four legged - for our events.  These events occur during the period April to December and are an important part of both the fundraising process for Golden Rescue as well as building awareness. It is our goal that each VC will have 3-4 events to manage during the year, which can be done remotely and involves mostly emails with some phone work starting about two months prior to the event.

The duties include, but are not limited to:  creating and circulating the call for volunteers in order to effectively recruit individuals for a variety of volunteer roles; scheduling of volunteers for all shifts, including handling replacements for cancellations; ensuring volunteers are engaged, though consistent and effective communication; coordinating “thank you” emails to the volunteers, etc. You will be provided with all the tools, training and support you need to achieve these goals.

The VC should have a high level of organizational skills, ability to think creatively and propose innovative ways to solve problems; exceptional communication skills both written and verbally; and good computer skills. Some knowledge of Google Drive would be an asset.

Estimate time commitment: 10-15 hours per event
