#3216 Dexter

ID #: 3216 Age: 3 yrs Gender: male Status: Available

Hi everybody…my name is Dexter and I’m three years old.  When the good folks at Golden Rescue took me in, I was very overweight, matted, and scabby.  I’m pleased to say I’ve lost a lot of weight (but I still have more to lose), my coat is now beautiful, and my skin is pretty good.  I’m also a heartworm survivor and I’m told that I was a trooper throughout my treatment.  I’m now fine and just need ordinary heartworm protection like any other dog.  It’s amazing what love and care will do.  Thank you everyone, especially my amazing foster family ~ you have all been so good to me!  When I first arrived, I don’t think I had ever been in a house before so it was a really big learning curve for me.  But each day I’m getting better, more comfortable…and slimmer (haha).  Each day, I’m getting more secure and learning your ways and commands.  I still have this thing called ‘separation anxiety’ so it is hard for me if you leave without me although I am getting crate trained, so I really need to go to a home where someone is home most of the time.  My foster mom describes me as gentle, loving, and sweet.  Pretty good, eh?  I love people and I’m so-so with other dogs but I can be jealous if they get affection…and I can even get snarly with them.  That will likely change over time as I start to feel more safe and secure, so you may have to work on my socialization.  I’m gentle with my treats and loud noises don’t bother me.  I am truly a work-in-progress but, as the Beatles so aptly sang, “It’s getting better all the time, getting so much better all the time”.

Dexter is currently being fostered in the Ottawa, ON area. If you would like more information about Dexter please call our hot-line toll free at 1-866-712-8444 or email adoption@goldenrescue.ca and one of our volunteers will be happy to return your call.
