Hello! My name is Kyra and I’m a one-year-old girl. When I first came into the Golden Rescue program, I was very fearful of people, dogs, new situations…pretty much everything. I was truly a ‘Nervous Nelly’. Now, with the help of my amazing trainer, I’ve come to realize that everyone I meet only wants the best for me so I feel safe. I might still be a bit nervous in new situations but I have really come a long way so for that reason it is probably a good idea that there are no young children in the home just to be safe. Getting to know dogs, on the other hand, takes me a little longer to get comfortable as long as they are very calm. Once I’m comfortable and I know who the other dog is, I’m fine, but I still have some trust issues. Cats, on the other hand, let’s say we just don’t get along. I also have a stubborn streak, particularly on walks. Having said that, my leash training has improved a lot but still needs more work. I guess, because I’m still basically a pup, I have a lot to learn so if you have patience and are willing to continue my training, we would get along really well. The things I absolutely love are belly rubs, rolling in the grass, and lots of petting. I am not a big barker and loud noises don’t bother me much. I can be left alone if you have to go out without me and I’m not too grabby with my toys and treats. My foster family says I’m a bit smelly so they bathe me quite often but they are about to change my food as they think that might help. I don’t smell anything but being in the canine family, I’m pretty sure that awful smell wouldn’t bother me in the least (teehee). Well, that’s about it for me. I’m off to school to work on my sit, stay, come, and paw. And I’m a little ticked about that…school isn’t supposed to start until September (sigh).
