Hi everyone…my name is Thelma and I’m a 5-year-old Golden/Duck Toller mix. I came to your wonderful country from Istanbul and it has taken me a while to get used to your Canadian ways. My amazing foster mom says I have come along leaps and bounds since I first arrived. I was cautious and uncertain about pretty much everything in this new world; however, I have slowly started to understand how you crazy Canuks function. I have come to the realization that you truly are all so ‘nice’ and only want the best for me ~ thank you for that, by the way. So, here’s the skinny on my personality. I’m probably more Duck Toller-esque in my personality as I am definitely a one-woman-girl. I respond well to a strong loving female who I can look up to. I am not great around men as they make me nervous. I suppose I could get used to a man if he is gentle, patient, and loving but I will likely ignore him more than anything. The same for male dogs, I could get used to them and I will play once I’m comfortable.

In a perfect world, I’d like to be with one female owner with no other distractions like children, men or other dogs. Funnily enough though, cats are fine with me. Life is getting pretty good and I greet my foster mom every morning with a wagging tail and a lazy ‘let’s you and me let the day unfold’ approach. I like relaxing on my blanket on the couch or my favourite bench by the window and love and expect my daily tummy rubs. I enjoy being brushed and being made a fuss over. I can be left alone if you have to go out without me. As I rule, I simply ignore other dogs. I’m getting pretty good on the leash and prefer a long lead for a bit of bathroom privacy. I’m not very food motivated so I like to think your requests are my ideas. I also don’t like loud noises or other surprises and can get agitated but my beautiful foster mom knows how to calm me. I have been a mother and survived a lot in my previous life; however, with the help of you wonderful Canadians, I have come out the other side pretty unscathed. The doc says I’m healthy and with patience and love, I am a wonderfully loyal companion. So, if there is a woman out there looking for a ‘wonderfully loyal companion’, I just might be your girl.
