COVID-19: What we're doing to keep our volunteers and families safe, read more.

Hi everyone in Canada. I’m writing to you from Cairo. My name is Bloom and I’m a 9-month-old pup. My wonderful rescuers here are trying to find a way to get me to your country. When they found me, I was very sick and thin and I also have a thing called ‘hip dysplasia’ and I’m going to need a couple of operations soon. As you can see from my video, I can get around but our International Vet Liaison in Canada had a look at my x-rays and he said both my hips are bad but he believes that two hip surgeries will relieve my pain and make it easier for me to run and play.

The problem is it could cost as much as $20,000 and I also need help just with the recoveries of both surgeries. If I stay in Cairo, I don’t have much of a chance to survive and my mobility will go downhill fast. Yikes! It’s likely that I’m in some pain now, but you know us stoic Goldens…we won’t tell you until it’s really bad. Golden Rescue is looking for an adoptive family who would see me through the surgeries and recoveries. I know this is a HUGE ask but this is my life we’re talking about…and I am still SO young that I’d like to have a life. My shelter friends here describe me as a very loveable, sweet, playful girl who loves people and other dogs, in fact, I love everyone I meet and I am immediately everyone’s friend. I am small, only 35 pounds, but I am putting on some much-needed weight now that I am getting fed regularly (but not too much weight as that’s even worse for my hips). I realize what I’m asking is a huge thing but my Cairo friends say you wonderful Canadians are my only hope for a good, long, pain-free life. There’s a Moody Blues song that keeps swirling around in my head:

I know you’re out there somewhere
Somewhere, somewhere
I know you’re out there somewhere
Somewhere you can hear my voice!

Bloom will be arriving in Canada soon. If you would like more information about Bloom please call our hotline toll-free at 1-866-712-8444 or email adoption@goldenrescue.ca and one of our volunteers will be happy to return your call.
