Hi everyone…my name is Martina and I’m around nine years old. Yes, I’ve seen the world and you might call me a grand-dame. My amazing foster mom calls me her princess. I like that. When I first came into the GR program from Istanbul, I was pretty dirty with matted hair. I was embarrassed but my foster mom sorted out my grooming really quickly. I have a bit of arthritis so I don’t move very quickly and I was kind of in pain too but the doc gave me these wonderful meds so I’m still slow but a lot more comfortable. I am also learning all your human commands and I respond well to a strong leader. I’m afraid my education was lacking growing up but don’t worry, I’m getting the hang of everything now. Right now, I’m living with two other male cousins and a bunch of visiting cousins and to be quite honest, that’s all a bit too frenetic (nice big word, eh?) for me. In a perfect world, it would be great if I was the only dog in a quiet home where I could lie on the porch and watch the world go by. I love people and other dogs but if they’re too boisterous it disturbs my karma. After all, at my age, I think I deserve some peace and quiet. I walk well on the leash but that’s because I am a slow walker…happy to smell the roses as I saunter along life’s winding trail. I am really no bother ~ a bit of food, a bit of love, and a small space to wile away my day.

All I want is a room somewhere
Far away from the cold night air
With one enormous chair
Oh, wouldn’t that be loverly!

Martina is currently being fostered in the Barrie, ON area. If you would like more information about Martina call our hotline toll-free at 1-866-712-8444 or email and one of our volunteers will be happy to return your call.
