Hello you ‘nice’ Canadians. My name is Hugo and I’m writing to you from Cairo. I have included a picture and a video of myself so you can see that my back end is paralyzed from what they think was a bad blow. I’m trying to forget about it as it hurts too much and I’m only looking to the future now.

I can get around but I basically drag myself with my front legs. My rescue superstars here in Cairo have been looking after me but desperately want me to come to Canada where they believe I will have a much better life. Extended shelter life is no life for any dog but even less so for one like me. One of my pals, Gracie #3513, had a similar issue and when she came to Canada, you fit her with an amazing set of wheels. Now look at her go!
Look at Gracie now!
I know I’m asking a lot and I don’t even understand why I would actually deserve your kindness as you don’t even know me, but here I am, paws crossed, hoping you might find it in your heart to take me in. Everything else about me is wonderful. I am a young boy, only a year old, and I love people, dogs, and cats. I have been described as a sweet, gentle, calm boy who loves everyone I meet. That’s because since I was rescued, everyone has been kind to me. Other than my back legs, the doc says I’m healthy and if an operation won’t help me, I’d be really happy with a pair of ‘Gracie Wheels’. The good people at Golden Rescue say they would like someone in the Toronto area to take me as it would be important to be close to the specialist and where I would be fitted for wheels. I don’t know where Toronto is but I trust your judgement. Well, there you go Canadian angels! That’s my story. My legs may be broken but my spirit is not.

These days as I go to sleep, I keep hearing this old Melanie song in my head.
Maybe it’s a good omen:
I’ve got a brand-new pair of roller skates
You’ve got the brand-new key
I think we should get together
And try them out to see
I’ve been waiting around a while
Hoping you have something for me
I’ve got a brand-new pair of roller skates
Do you have the brand-new key?
(Heehee)
