Hi everyone in GoldenRescueLand ~ my name is Dixy and I’m 2 years old. When I arrived on Golden Rescue’s doorstep, I was afraid of everything! These days, with the help of my wonderful fosters, I only get afraid if I’m startled outside with new loud noises or new situations. Inside, I am much more confident. New noises make me nervous and I want to run away from them but my amazing foster dad is showing me that there is nothing to be afraid of and they believe, in time, this fearfulness will go away. I am on an anxiety medication which seems to be helping quite a bit. It’s too early to tell if this is something I’ll need to take forever or for the time being. In the short run, I have already improved so they are optimistic. Big word for a young girl, right? They recommend that I need to be on the leash or have a secure backyard so I can’t bolt when I get spooked. In the meantime, I am learning your human ways and have already learned ‘sit’ and ‘no’. I am also really good on the leash unless I see a critter. I have lots of energy so I need lots of exercise to tire me out and then I am a good example of ‘a good dog is a tired dog’. I love people and have great respect for my leaders and look to them for guidance when I encounter new situations. I need more socialization with other dogs though. I am working on this with my foster dad and this is a work-in-progress. I am gentle with my treats. You can touch me anywhere. The doc says I’m a healthy girl and I must say I certainly feel good and feel so lucky to have met all these wonderful GR people who are helping me on my journey. My foster dad describes me this way: “Dixy is a 98% perfect Golden. Her only fault is when she gets startled. She is a popular dog in the neighbourhood and everyone loves her. With more training, Dixy will overcome her foibles and will be absolutely wonderful.” Thank you for that and believe me, I am anxious to continue my training to be the best girl I can possibly be.
