So no one told you life was gonna be this way
Your job’s a joke, you’re broke, your love life’s DOA

Those are the words to the theme song for the TV show ‘Friends’ just in case you didn’t recognize them. I wanted to start out with this but I was debating starting with the song I’m famous for ‘Smelly Cats’ but it didn’t seem quite appropriate for rescue. So, I’m Phoebe, surely named after the character in Friends. As for the song lyrics, well, of course I don’t work, but I sure didn’t know love and certainly no one told me it was going to be this way. That is…until I met the best people in the world at Golden Rescue. Before I was rescued, I had had little human contact and basically lived outside in a dog run. I met these amazing people called my foster family and they actually took me inside their house. I was terrified and I was, what you humans call, ‘shut down’. Those were really scary days. I have come such a long way and although I still have so much to learn, I have learned about ‘human kindness’ and I have found it here in spades. Thank you all so much! Let me properly introduce myself. My name is Phoebe and I’m around 5 years old. Before GR, I had no training whatsoever in your human ways. Now, I have already learned a lot. For example, I am nearly house trained and I am getting the hang of the leash thing. I take my treats gently and I understand that you have to go out without me from time to time. I am not aggressive in any way but if I encounter something new or something that scares me, I simply retreat until I feel safe. Like with unexpected loud noises, I don’t freak, I just retreat. My energy level is getting better but I’m happiest just sitting and watching the world go by. The doc says I’m a healthy girl with a lot of potential who just needs to be loved and cared for. Well, that’s my story. I’m safe and sound now and learning more every day. My fosters say that I have the sweetest nature with a million-dollar golden smile. You are welcome to come and visit me and see my progress. I’m actually proud of how far I’ve come already but imagine how far I could still go if we did it together, so remember:

I’ll be there for you “cause you’re there for me too.
