Hi everyone…my name is Dakota and I’m a 2-year-old female. When I first met the good people at GR, I was pretty much a nervous wreck. I wasn’t totally house-trained. I had separation anxiety. I had resource guarding, no leash training, and was a compulsive barker. Holy cow…that’s a lot of ‘issues’ when they’re actually written down. In my defense, I didn’t know what was going on in my new world. I hadn’t had much training or experience with your human ways so I was pretty much bewildered. Once I realized that all these new people I was meeting only wanted the best for me, especially my amazing foster family, I calmed down a lot. For example, I am fully house trained now and walk well on the leash using a gentle leader. I still bark when someone comes to the door but I settle much more quickly. And I know a whole bunch of commands like sit, stay, down, gentle, come, off, up, place! So overall, I’m learning a lot and am responding well to love and kindness. My lovely foster mom says that I continue to improve everyday with continued love, patience, and consistency. She says I’m a beautiful girl (ah shucks) and am worth the effort. Here’s how she describes me: “Dakota is super affectionate, cuddly, and always there to put a smile on your face. She is always ready for her walks and is alert and clever and learns something new every day.” Yes, I do love learning new things and I am very thankful for everyone’s help.
