Hi everybody my name is Jasper and I’m a 2-year-old boy. How cool is it that I’ve been named after one of Canada’s most beautiful national parks! I heard someone say that I’m ‘beautiful’ so maybe that’s why! When I first came into the GR program, I was pretty agitated and grumpy. I didn’t know what was going on so I was very nervous. I got some medication that calmed me down and gave me time to get to know my amazing foster family, who I love dearly. It takes me a while to trust new people but once I develop that trust, I am a velcro boy. In a trusting environment, I am very playful and active. I love my walks and am actually pretty good on the leash unless I see another dog and then I pull and can be grumpy. I’m actually okay with other dogs off-leash but on a leash I can be aggressive. I think you humans call that ‘leash aggression’ so we need to work on that together. That is why it would be great if you had a big fenced backyard that I could play in and expend some energy. Another friendly Golden to play with would also be a real treat (and a benefit) for me so that’s almost a ‘must’. I love my walks so if you’re active and will include me in all aspects of your adventures, I’m your boy. I am gentle with my treats. You can touch me anywhere. If you have to go out without me, I need to be in my crate, which I like by the way. The doc says I’m a healthy boy who just needs consistency with training as I still have a lot to learn. So, an experienced dog owner would certainly be important until I get to know all your needs and commands. Once I get to know you, I will love you, shadow you, and be your best friend. If you can just be patient with me, I could be the best Golden ever.
