Hi everyone…my name is Baloo and I’m a 4-year-old boy. When I first came into the GR program, I was pretty nervous ~ pacing and drinking a lot of water. After all, I had no idea what was happening so of course I was anxious. With the help of my wonderful foster family, it didn’t take me long to realize I was in safe, loving hands so I started to relax and enjoy myself in my new surroundings. It has taken me some time to learn the ropes. For example, I’m getting pretty good on the leash. I am starting to learn my commands, but I have to admit I know them better when there are treats in the picture. When there are no treats, not so much. I guess my commands are a work-in-progress. Don’t worry though, I’m pretty smart, so I’ll get there. I think I was named after the Kipling character in The Jungle Book. He was a bear called Baloo. He was a fun-loving, easy-going, good-natured bear. Bhalu is Hindi for ‘bear’ so that’s where Kipling got the name. I do like to think of myself as easy-going. In fact, my mantra is ‘eat, play, love’. Oh yes, I also love to nap, so my mantra is ‘eat, play, love, nap’. I am gentle with my treats. You can touch me anywhere. Loud noises don’t bother me and you can sort of leave me alone if you have to go out without me. I’ve said ‘sort of’ because I tend to bark when I’m left alone. I’m not destructive but I am loud. So, it would be best if I lived in a detached home rather than a condo or townhouse. As much as I love to nap, I also love running around so a fenced backyard where I can do my zoomies would also be amazing. I would also make an amazing jogging partner…so the more active the family, the better for me. The doc says I’m a healthy boy and he thinks I’m a good-looking dude too. Ah shucks! I would be fine living as the only pet in the home but it might be fun for me to have another canine buddy. I am currently living with a cat and that seems to be going okay although that little critter keeps hissing at me. Maybe they should have called me Cat Balou. That was the name of an old movie with Lee Marvin and Jane Fonda. Lee was this drunken gunfighter…oh, never mind. I prefer Kipling’s view of me. Baloo…the easy-going bear. Well, that’s my story. I just want to thank the good people at GR and my wonderful foster family for all their care and love. I am so grateful and if you pick me for the next phase of my journey, I will pay you back tenfold with love and loyalty. Okay gotta go…that critter is hissing at me again.
