LEASH MANNERS
Having good leash manners is not only more pleasurable for you as you walk your dog but is more enjoyable for your dog too. A dog that constantly pulls on the leash with you pulling the dog back is not a nice way to spend quality time with your furry friend. Helen will discuss fixing problems and getting adult dogs “restarted”.
Knowing “how” to walk your dog is only one aspect, knowing what to do when other dogs approach is also key. Helen will talk about “leash reactivity” and some of the issues that can arise when introducing dogs on leash.

A champion horse and carriage driver and professional dog trainer who has spent years learning about animal behaviour, Helen is committed to creating great relationships between dogs and their people. She has her Masters in Animal Behaviour from the University of Guelph, is a Certified Dog Behaviour Consultant with the IAABC, a Certified Fear Free Professional and has had her CPDT-KA for many years. She recently completed a maternity leave running the Puppy Foster program for an autism service dog charity…where there were lots of Goldens! In 2010 she received the Ontario Equestrian Federation’s “People Make A Difference” award for her dedication to improving horse sports and over ten years of organizing competitions, seminars, events in teamwork with Boards of Directors. She is current Chair of the Canadian Association of Professional Pet Dog Trainers where she is working on doing many of the same things. When not helping her clients develop well-mannered family dogs and fix dog behaviour problems, Helen enjoys training her own dogs, a formerly separation-anxiety-ridden YorkiePoo and a formerly aggressive American Eskimo mini.
