Dexter #1919

Gender: male

Status: adopted

Dexter started his life out as a stray and was originally called Evan. He had been knocked around, was adopted, but was returned to GR. Dexter is a wonderful dog, inside and out, but as his name might imply, there are two sides to him. He can lose his mind and his manners when he encounters other dogs. This is getting progressively better and on the advice of his foster and behaviourists, we are working on improving this side of Dexter’s personality. I’m sure he came by his behaviours honestly and in every other way he is a sweetheart…but he need lots of love, patience, and consistent training to improve his socialization. We have had our lovely boy for almost a year and he’s a five-year-old who loves his car rides and walks. He is very well trained and loving and even his aggression with other dogs is slowly improving. We see hopeful signs in the neighbourhood every day. For example, we went on a lovely walk with a cute little collie the other day with no incident whatsoever…fingers crossed! Dexter is settling in to our family beautifully and we love him. If he got along with other dogs he would be absolutely perfect and in our experience, there is no such thing…but he’s darn close!
