What a wonderful life it has been since Boomer arrived in our lives! From the moment he began his wobbly walk down the ramp, gooey eyes and all, we were in love. We can’t say he felt the same because he was being shifted from one new and scary situation to another. I’m sure the hour-long drive to his new home was as terrifying as the 11+ hours he spent in a crate not knowing where he was going. We can only imagine his relief when we walked him to our backyard and let him explore his new surroundings. What an amazing experience that first 24 hours was. We saw subtle signs of relaxation as he went from a very guarded posture to eventually rolling over fully on his back waiting for a belly rub. We were amazed at the difference in his appearance overnight. Three months later and you wouldn’t recognize him. Amazing what a good diet, exercise, love, and veterinary care can do! Our vet actually called Boomer “perfect”. We couldn’t agree more! During the first week we had Boomer, he had no idea what to do with a toy although many surrounded him. He just didn’t know he was allowed to pick them up and play with them in his own fashion. But after a visit from our grand-golden, Waylon, who does know how to play with toys, Boomer realized those funny-shaped things were his. He now goes to Boomer’s toy box and gets what he wants, when he wants. He is such a good boy and a quick learner. We are so proud of him. Two other things that we do know for sure. One ~ he loves us and is devoted to us. Two ~ he dislikes squirrels. It has been such a wonderful experience watching him transform from a scrawny, hesitant boy into a strong and healthy Golden. Thank you for making this all happen and rest assured that Boomer will never want for anything for the rest of his life.
