Cobi’s Long Journey…

Cobi’s Long Journey…

We have now rescued over 3,000 Goldens in 29 years, there are many sad and bad stories but Cobi #2748’s story haunts us. This little girl came to us from a puppy mill and the best we can determine, she had no human interaction, love or kindness in her first six years of life except to be given food and water. She was a puppy-making machine, kept in a cage, and the only canine interaction she had was when a male came into her pen for breeding.…

The light in his eyes was gone….

The light in his eyes was gone….

Every Golden story is different. Each Golden comes to us with their own unique circumstances. Some stories are unfortunate…some are downright tragic. We don’t know where Buddy came from and what his previous life was like, but we do know he had a difficult road back to health and happiness. This poor boy came to us with severe separation anxiety, which resulted in very destructive behaviours.  He was adopted twice and both times he was returned due to his destructiveness.  …

International Mission of Love

International Mission of Love

Some people have asked us what the situation is in Egypt as it relates to dog rescue and how and why Golden Rescue got involved. We thought the best way to describe the Egypt dilemma is to give you a first-hand account of the journey to Cairo that we, Jane Riddell and Viive Tamm, Golden Rescue board members, took so we could understand what was going on and what, if anything, Golden Rescue could do to help. Before we relate our personal account of the trip, let us give you some general information on the situation in Egypt.

Testimonials for Mission of Love

Testimonials for Mission of Love

It is hard to describe the feeling you get when you rescue a Golden from the streets of Istanbul, Cairo or Mexico City.  If you’ve been fortunate to join us at the airport when we let one of these grateful beauties out of their crate after their many ordeals, you would understand what we are talking about.  People have described it as a life-changing moment.  It’s even more difficult to relay what adopting an International Golden is like, so best that be left to the wonderful families who have adopted.

Click below to read comments from our adoptive families for a first-hand sense of what our ‘Mission of Love’ is all about and what rescue ‘feels like’.  Of course, this is only a snapshot.  There is so much more to tell, so much more to feel, and so much more gratitude to experience when you are part of one Golden’s journey to safety ~ a Golden who, until now, had no hope.

Jasper ~ with a heart as big as a national park

Jasper ~ with a heart as big as a national park

He arrived at Golden Rescue with little information about his previous life, as he was found wandering lost and alone in rural Ontario.  He was an 11-year-old senior citizen who desperately needed a new home, as all efforts to locate his former family had gone cold.  Typically senior dogs are sometimes looked over when adopters are searching for a new furry family member.  It’s often heart-breaking for our fosters and placement teams when they struggle to find that perfect family who wants to wrap their arms around a Golden who is advanced in years.…

The Golden Life of Pal

The Golden Life of Pal

He lives in a world of darkness.  He is not familiar with the people around him, the language they speak, the smells from his new home or the touch of those who care for him.  He is a baby and he is blind.  Every day is a learning experience that is not always easy, not always successful, filled with uncertainty and doubt.  This is the story of Pal ~ a four-month old Golden Retriever puppy born into the most unfortunate of circumstances that most likely would have ended his short life had it not been for Golden Rescue and the love of his new, nothing-short-of-amazing, forever family.
